But if what you are looking is to reoganize and clean everything keep reading.

Have you ever just sat on your chair and looked in front of you wondering “How do I organize my Sewing Room?”

I am glad! Because the answer is right here.

I am writing this post to announce the start of our first challenge ever on My Golden Thimble.

Right beside me is my still-to-be-take-down Christmas tree, and my holiday boxes waiting to be stored.

And as every start of a new year starts with a blank slate full of opportunities and do-overs, my house is getting there too.

At least two times a year I clean, organize, and unclutter my house so that I can start fresh a “new season”.

I firmly believe that you can’t have room for great new things (physically and emotionally speaking) if you don’t get rid of the old and outdated.

Wait, don’t worry. I am not going to tell you to to get rid of your fabric!

The space you spend the most time in has to be a space that you LOVE. A space in which you are comfortable and happy.

In my case, in my house, there are two rooms which I can call my favorites, and one of them is my living room.

The other one of course, as you might agree with me, is my sewing room.

How do I organize my Sewing Room?

In order to organize your Craft or Sewing Room, you have to divide the cleaning into smaller steps. Unclutter, classify, build storage, and reorganize.

The craft room or sewing room (often both) is where we pass our best time doing our projects and spilling out our creativity.

The place where we get all the sewing benefits in our bodies and mind.

But the thing with creativity is… it gets messy!

It happens to us all.

You are in the middle of a sewing project, a quilt, a new pattern, you name it.

And the further you go, the dirtier your sewing room gets.

Scraps of fabric and threads all over the place. Pins and needles go missing, and the pair of scissors that you were just holding a minute ago disappear into thin air.

But that’s no reason to get us to stop.

The problem is when that mess starts to build up and stops you from doing your projects fluidly.

I get to that point every two or three projects.

But this last December I passed by far my tolerance of disorder in my sewing room. In fact, I am still there.

With all the last-minute sewing gifts I made, the party outfits, and my first quilt, my sewing room became a minefield.

But it doesn’t really matter what day or month you’re reading this.

Most likely you’re in the same position as me.

That’s why I created this challenge in which together we can rebuild and reorganize our sewing rooms.

We are going to take the next five weeks (or less if you are feeling brave) to put back together our favorite space.

I am going to give you small, easy, and actionable steps to create the best layout for your craft room and use organization hacks to have your fabrics and notions all easy to find and with a beautiful display, no less.

And this is how we are going to do it.

Sewing Room Organization Challenge.

You can join this challenge completely free by signing up here.

That way you will get a new email with free printables, labels, checklists, and instructions to complete this challenge and get the perfect sewing room at the end of 5 weeks.

Most of us have an incredibly large collection of sewing tools, notions, and fabrics, and it can be overwhelming.

That is why the challenge is divided into 5 weeks (or 5 steps) to take it with baby-steps.

Each week you will get a goal with instructions, ideas, and support material you can print at home.

This material will help you to visualize and organize your mind first so you can put that in action later.

Here is how our weeks are going to look like.

Week 1-

Layout plan and Unclutter.

The best way to organize any space is to first remove everything that is on or inside it.

Otherwise, all you’ll get is to make more clutter.

You might even lose things you didn’t even know you had.

This is a common thing for seamstresses because we work with such a big amount of different tools and notions.

Not to mention our un explicable condition to acquire more fabric to sew in a lifetime.

Once you see your empty space, you’ll be able to see what you’ve got to work with.

We are going to designate a special area for each of your needs depending on if you are a crafter, a quilter, a seamstress, or of the above.

In this step, I will help you to create a perfect layout for your sewing room organization.

So make sure you have your printable checklist and layout map for this step.

Week 2-

Sewing Supplies Organization

This week I will give you a worksheet with which you will be able to classify all the objects that you have.

We’ll start from very general categories to the most specific ones.

This will give you a chance to see what you really own. Things you have, the things you’ve forgotten, and the things you definitely want to get rid of.

Print the checklist I’ll send you to your email to make this task easier.

Week 3-

Shelving and storage ideas.

Once we have all our things classified, it’s time to assign them a place.

We are going to choose the perfect Shelving and Storage Solutions and Ideas depending on your sewing needs and preferences.

And then, based on the layout we drafted in week one, we are going to set up the storage, shelves, boxes, or even portable drawers for each category.

I am going to give a lot of sewing supplies and organization ideas for you to select and implement your favorite.

Did anyone say pegboard?

Week 4-

Sewing Room Organization Hacks

Now, the best moment has arrived. Well, at this for me and my OCD.

This week, we are gonna take one section at a time and organize it in the best way possible.

The goal is to put our things in an accessible way.

Without the mess, of course.

You have to be able to access all things quickly and easily.

Even if those tools are hidden in boxes.

That’s why our free printable labels are going to help you wonderfully.

I will also share with you my favorite organization hacks and cleaning solutions so you can take what it helps.

Week 5-

Sewing Room Decor Ideas

Last but not least.

Now that everything is in its own place, we have a free way to add decor touches here and there.

We are going to get inspired by the most beautiful Sewing Rooms out there.

Then, we are going to turn our resources and creativity on.

Print our free sewing art frames or make your own decor with our tips.

  1. Hi Dafhtne, I think you must have been picking up on my vibes! My husband has been talking about redesigning my sewing room for months; he’s a builder, does & makes wonderful things, but it can be a long time before anything starts to be done, & even longer before it’s finished. Our home is often a “work in progress”! But, finally, I’ve pinned him down to a week over Christmas, when he won’t be working. Meanwhile, my sewing room is full of clutter, I have tried to keep working areas clean & clear, & have storage boxes for all my fabrics, projects etc, but it’s desperately in need of a complete overhaul. So your advice, worksheets, labels, everything will be so useful to me, I’m so grateful to you; if I start soon, you never know, beloved husband might take the hint & do some builder things?! Can’t promise it’ll be done in the next 5 weeks, but it WILL be done!
