Fall is coming our way, inviting us into its cozy fall vibes and unique colors. And what can be a better way to do that than with some retail therapy?

Autumn is my favorite season for clothes. That is why I am already planning my Sewing Capsule Wardrobe Fall Edition. And one of the most important steps is choosing the fabrics.

Believe it or not, the fabric type you choose can make all the difference in comfort, durability, and, most importantly, the quality of your garment or sewing project.

Choosing the right fabric for your sewing project is essential to getting it right, especially when you are sewing your own clothes.

But before we go on a shopping spree, let’s get familiar with the options we must choose from. 

Popular Fall Fabric Choices For Fall

1. Wool

Wool fabrics are one of the best choices for warmth and sophistication. This fabric is excellent for trapping heat and keeping you warm in colder temperatures. It also has moisture-absorbing properties, which make it perfect to wear on rainy or humid days. Not to mention that it is known for its durability and strength. So it’s ideal for sewing timeless treasures. 

If you want to try wool fabrics this fall, try Merino Wool for lightweight and comfort, Cashmere for softness, and Tweed to add some texture to your garments.

2. Flannel

I personally always have a fabric yard of check flannel in my studio. Mainly to do hand warmers.

Of course, we know denim is an all-year-round fabric. But when it comes to Fall denim, things start to get a bit interesting. That is why I keep a good bunch of quilting cotton fabric collections for every season, holiday, and theme I love. Why? I’m am just starting to get back in the swing of trying to get my sewing started. 3 yrs ago I lost my husband, which was devasting for me since we had been together since I was sixteen and had been married for 48 yrs. He was my biggest supporter and critic. He would always tell me if it looked good or just not good. Your post are always filled with so much help. I do have a question, what about scuba fabric is that good for fall?

      As for the scuba fabric, it would depend on the project. Do you want to make pants or maybe a skirt??
