My Dirty Secret on How to Sew Knit Fabric Without Puckering, Stretching or Skipped Stitches.

This is one of my oldest habits in sewing.

I learned it from one of my teachers in fashion school.

I use tissue or pattern paper to stabilize my fabric. Like the one you use for pattern tracing.

The main reason I love this trick is because is a no-brainer. I swear that it has saved me more than once.

Especially when I am in a hurry to finish my projects ASAP.

This is especially helpful for me when I use lightweight or as in this video knit fabrics.

Here you can see how on the first stitch with the tissue paper it goes very clean and fluid.

But when I remove the paper it starts to move, stretch itself and skip stitches.

Once removed you can clearly see the difference between with and without.

I love this tip because is so practical and it also helps with tension guessing of fabrics.

Usually, I use the leftover scraps from the patterns I trace so is kind of like recycling tip.

In the second part of this video, I handle a small piece of the same fabric but underneath it.

I do this because is easier to handle, turn, and keep the small pieces from moving.

Is like having a larger sewing area that you can “peel” very easily.

The only thing I will advise you on is that when you are using this trick with a zig-zag stitch is not as easy to peel of as if you were using a simple straight stitch.

I mean, is still so much better than not using it, so just keep a eyebrow twizzers on hand and you will be fine.

EXTRA TIP: sometimes if the tissue paper doesn’t work like this I even switch it to printer paper. All though this gives you better stitches is a little bit harder to “peel”.
