For the sweetest Valentine’s Day meal I have for you a free Valentine Placemat Pattern that I made using the free-motion sewing technique and added some fabric applique too.
This is a very nice valentine’s sewing project to dress your table. And it’s a perfect opportunity to use your small scraps of fabric.

The design itself is pretty simple, yet very cute.
All though, the only thing I would change is the color of the placemat fabric, as white is not a very easy washable color.
I think I can dye it later with a nice pastel pink.
But as for now I think I will leave them like this and see what happens.

As the month of love arrives, it’s so nice to set your decoration of the house for the Love Day.
This is a thing that your guests will definitely appreciate and admire.
These beautiful placemats are perfect for hosting a meal with your friends or even to cheer up the holidays with your family.
They also made perfect Valentine’s Sewing Gifts you can make in a short time and with almost no resources.

To make these placemats you have to cut first the base that is basically a rectangle of 16” by 11 ½”+ seam allowance.
I didn’t make coasters this time but if you want to make some to match your Valentine Placemat Pattern cut squares of 4” by 4” + seam allowance.
Cut 2 pieces of each for every set you want to make.

The technique I used to make the design on the placemats was very similar to the one I used on my Free Motion sewing placemats and coasters.
The latest was made using a regular sewing foot, and the one I am using today is called free-motion sewing.
It’s used the same way you would sew a quilt with a quilt foot of course.
You can use either one of these two techniques to make this design.
Print the girl’s drawing by downloading the file at My Golden Thimble Sewing Club Facebook group. You will find this pattern (and a lot of others completely free) under the tab “files”.

Tracing the design
I decided to trace the drawing on pattern paper. That way I could see through when I place my scraps of fabric over the design.
Also, I traced the shape of the dress and the balloon. Then I cut the scraps of fabric to size.
Use tracing paper to transfer the design to the placemat and start sewing (or drawing if you may).
After you are done, snip the extra threads and place.
Finally place the other layer of the placemat with the right sides of the fabric facing together. Sew them and turn them inside out.
If your sewing machine has decorative stitches, you might one to use them to decorate the edges of the design.
I decided to go with the heart decorative stitch in a contrasting red thread.
Here is a short video demonstrating how I made this Valentine Placemat Pattern.

The placemats are adorable and I’d love to try this technique. There’s a line at the end of the blog indicating a Video Tutorial but there’s no video. Also, you indicated that “One-line flowers drawing sewing placemats and coasters” but that link goes to a screen that says “Nothing found”. I would really love to more about this technique. It would be an excellent way to meld art and sewing into one project. Thanks.
