Sew Sweet!! 3 Unique Valentines Day Card Ideas you can Sew Today.

Today I bring you an Oh! So Sweet Valentine’s Day Card Ideas, we are going to sew.

Well… we are going to stitch. But you get what I am saying.

For these homemade Cards, the only thing you need is a Printer, some paper, embroidery thread, and of course, lots and lots of L-O-V-E!!

Please point me to one person who doesn’t love a Handmade Card. Because I have yet to know them. Any DIY present shows a lot of love and thought for the receiver.

It shows them that you cared enough to take the time and effort to make something unique and meaningful. That is why today I am going to show you how to achieve this feeling by also doing your favorite hobby: sewing.

For this Valentine’s Day Card Ideas, I used different stitching techniques to give twists and variations to them.

I combined hand and machine stitching, as well as Fabric Appliqué Techniques, to achieve these specially crafted looks.

They are so easy to make, and I just know you are going to enjoy making them as much as your loved ones are going to enjoy getting them.

Sewing Your Valentine’s Cards

Believe me when I tell you that these Valentine’s Cards were lots of fun to make. From choosing the pretty designs to stabbing (sorry punching!) the paper, funny fun.

I wanted each card to be unique in some kind of way. So, that’s why I decided to experiment with my techniques until I got something lovely that I knew people would enjoy seeing and getting.

I think the results are strong. Don’t you?

My Cards: 

The First Card I made was the heart-shaped one. I used red embroidery thread for the heart and black for the pattern frame.

This was all sewn by hand.

For the Second Card, I wanted to create something more friendly and funny for friends in my life with a good sense of humor. With this funny card, I combined a hand-stitch with a decorative stitch on my sewing machine.

Finally, for the Air Balloon Card, I chose a simple fabric appliqué technique. Used pink tones of scraps fabrics and a magenta thread color that I sewed with my sewing machine.

Materials Needed for this Tutorial:

• Medium weight white paper letter size
• Embroidery threads
• Sewing Machine
• Home Printer
• Tape

 

1. Heart Valentine’s Day Card

Print the Heart Cover page from the Templates File and cut around the frame of the solid line. I recommend using a medium-weight paper for this project.

Take a medium-sized hand needle and use it to punch all the dots of the cover.

Thread your needle and start your first stitch on the back of the paper.

To avoid bulky knots, use a piece of tape to secure the end of the thread on the back.

Start “stitching” by jumping with your needle and thread randomly from one dot to the other.

If you want to use fewer threads, do as I did here on the back. Instead of crossing my threads across the heart, I jumped the right or left dot to keep the volume on the front of the card.

This is going to make the paper easier to glue over the final card.

Once you have achieved the desired look, stop stitching and tape the end of your thread to the back.

To give the heart more detail, you can make a back stitch. You will achieve this by starting at the second dot from the bottom-left. Then you insert the needle into the first bottom dot.

Repeat as you go, until ending on the same point you started.

For the frame, you will also need to punch the dots and simply make simple stitches, skipping one space.

 

2. Sew Happy Valentine’s Card

All righty. Start by punching the dots around the “SEW” word.

Then begin stitching from a corner of any letter and taping the thread end on the back. Make a simple stitch until you finish each letter.

On this card, I decided to use a decorative stitch on my machine. You can use any kind of stitch you like.

For this step, I recommend using an old needle. Not a Sharpless one. Just one that is not new.

This is because we will sew paper, which may reduce its sharpness.

Place the edge of the paper on the edge of your machine’s foot and start sewing.

 

3. Air Balloon Card

Use the heart pattern on the templates file to cut around 9-10 fabric heart balloons.

Place the hearts over the card cover and secure them in place with spray adhesive or a glue stick.

Use as little glue as possible to avoid damaging either the machine or the needle.

With your sewing machine, sew around the edge of each heart at about ⅛”.

Use the same technique to sew the threads of each balloon: first make a few stitches around the bottom end of the top balloon, then follow the lines.

If you want your card to look more, use a decorative stitch around it. I went for this stitch, but you can choose whatever stitch you like.

Finishing the Cards.

Print the quotes you like the most from the file templates and fold them in half.

Use Craft glue to stick the cover card to the card, and you are done!
