Today I bring you an Oh! So Sweet Valentines Day Card Ideas we are going to Sew.
Well… we are going to stitch. But you get what I am saying.
For this homemade Cards, the only thing you need is a Printer, some paper, embroidery thread and of course, lots and lots of L-O-V-E!!
Please point me one person who doesn’t love a Handmade Card. Because I still yet to know them. Any DIY present shows a lot of love and thought to the receiver.
It shows them that you cared enough to take the time and effort to make something unique and meaningful. That is why today I am going to show you how to achieve this feeling by also doing your favorite hobby too: Sewing!!
For this Valentines Day Card Ideas, I used different stitches techniques to give twist and variations to them.
I mixed hand and machine stitching as well as Fabric Appliques Techniques to achieve these specially crafted looks.
They are so easy to make and I just know you are going to enjoy making them as much as your loved ones are going to enjoy getting them.

Sewing your Valentines Card Ideas
Believe me when I tell you that these Valentines Cards were lots of fun to make. From choosing the pretty designs to stabbing (sorry punching!) the paper, funny fun.
I wanted each card to be unique in some kind of way. So, that’s why I decided to experiment with my techniques until I got something lovely that I knew people will enjoy seeing and getting.
And I think the results are pretty great. Don’t you?

Air Balloon Valentines Day Card
The First Card I made was the Heart shaped one. I used red embroidery thread for the heart and black embroidery thread for the frame of the pattern.
This was all sewn by hand.
For the Second Card, I wanted to make something more friendly-funny for those friends in my life with a good sense of humor. With this funny card, I mixed a hand stitch with a decorative stitch from my sewing machine.
Finally, for the Air Baloon Card, I went for a Fabric Applique simple technique. Used pink tones of scraps fabrics and a magenta thread color that I sewed with my sewing machine.
Materials Needed for this Tutorial:
- Medium weight white paper letter size
- Embroidery threads
- Sewing Machine
- Home Printer
- Tape
1. Heart Valentine Day Card
Print the Heart Cover page from the Templates File and cut around the frame of the solid line. I recommend using a medium weight paper for this project.
Take a medium size hand needle and use it to punch all the dots of the cover.
Thread your needle and start your first stitch on the back of the paper.
To avoid bulky knots use a piece of tape to secure the end of the thread on the back.
Start “stitching” by jumping with your needle and thread randomly from one dot to the other.
If you want to use less thread do as I did here on the back. Instead of crossing my threads across the heart I jumped the right or left dot to keep the volume on the front of the card.
This is going to make the paper easier to glue over the final card.
Once you achieved the desired look stop stitching and tape the end of your thread to the back.
To give the heart more detail you can make a back stitch. You will achieve this by starting on the second dot from the bottom left. Then you insert the needle on the first bottom dot.
Repeat as you go, until ending on the same point you started.
For the frame, you will also need to punch the dots and simply make simple stitches, skipping one space.
2. Sew Happy Valentines Card
All righty. Start by punching the dots around the “SEW” word.
Then begin stitching from a corner of any letter and taping the end of the thread on the back. Make a simple stitch until you finish each letter.
On this card, I decided to make a decorative stitch that my machine has. You can use any kind of stitch you like.
For this step, my recommendation is that you use an old needle. Not a Sharpless one. Just one that is not new.
This is because we are going to sew paper, and this might take away some of the sharpness of it.
Place the edge of the paper on the edge of your machine’s foot and start sewing.
3. Air Baloon Card
Use the heart pattern on the templates file to cut around 9-10 fabric hearts balloons.
Place the hearts over the cover of the card and secure them in their place with spray glue or a glue stick.
Use as little glue as you can so we don’t damage either the machine or the needle.
With your sewing machine sew around the edge of each heart at about ⅛”.
Use the same technique to sew the threads of each balloon by first making a few stitches around the bottom end of the top balloons and then following the lines.
If you want your card to pop more, use a decorative stitch around it. I went for this stitch but you can choose whatever stitch you like.
Finishing the Cards.
Print the quotes you like the most from the files templates and fold them in half.
Use Craft glue to stick the cover card into the card and you are done!
