Dahlia Dress is a short princess cut dress Sewing Pattern with a semicircular skirt.

One of the things I love most about this Dress Pattern is that is perfect for a transition from spring to winter, just choose a different length of the sleeve and you can give it a completely different look!

It is designed for stretch knit fabrics which makes it so comfortable to wear. And it has a fitted fit around the bodice that highlights the natural curves of your chest.

The skirt of the dress starts right at the waist and begins to grow giving a very feminine wave to the fabric.

Also, you have the option to use only the skirt, thanks to the additional waistband sewing pattern.

What makes Dahlia one of the most loved Dress Sewing Patterns?

I first came up with Dahlia last year around November because I wanted a cute dress for Christmas. I want you to know that Christmas, where I live, is not really that cold, so I aimed for a short sleeve dress and a long sleeve dress too.

What I needed was to have an easy sewing pattern with options without breaking my brain making different patterns. And the best way I could accomplish that was giving Dahlia a good enough set of variations that could make totally different dresses with one single Sewing Pattern.

Moving along with all the variations options Dahlia Dress Pattern has, I want to tell you how you can take advantage of this design.

You see, this dress is designed for knit fabrics for a lot of reasons, being the most important one how fast you can finish one of these designs.

I think that you can start and finish a Dahlia in one afternoon. Plus, by being thoughtful about your choice of knit fabrics you can give it a very different look.

How to transition your Dahlia Dress Through all the seasons.

Spring Dahlia Dress Sewing Pattern

• Choose a floral lightweight knit fabric, is best if it has cotton content on it to allow breathability.
• If you want to look extra feminine use either the Single Ruffle or the Double Ruffle sleeve variations.
• For an outdoor party in the day use the scoop neckline (a little bit more casual) and the 3/4″ length sleeve with the midi length skirt. You will look fresh and casual and very stylish.
• If you have an outdoor party at night, go for the long sleeve with the boat neckline. This gives Dahlia a more formal look while keeping you comfortable. Choose the knee length skirt with heels so your legs look longer.
• Make a dark color (not black) only skirt so you have an “it goes with everything” piece of clothing. Color like navy blue, gray or burgundy would look awesome with almost every light color/weight blouse. Don’t forget to tuck in your blouse! This way you get the small waist effect.

Summer Dahlia Dress Sewing Pattern

• Go with the sleeveless variation or the short sleeve one.
• Single ruffle sleeves are perfect for armpit breathability! It is getting hot in here or what?
• Try using knit fabric with cotton content or lightweight fabric.
• Choose solid bright colors or abstract prints.
• The mini and midi skirts are going to be your best friends.
• The only skirt pattern with a strap blouse will do wonders for your look. Try using colorful jewelry to complement.

Fall Dahlia Dress Sewing Pattern

• Now is the time to use the 3/4 Sleeve option.
• Choose a medium weight knit fabric such as a Liverpool.
• Boat neckline is great for this season. It gives you a fancier look and it protects your chest from the cold wind.
• The midi and knee skirts are the best choices for this season.
• Combine your look with ankle boots!
• Look for texture fabric in solid warm colors.
• If you have a party use dark stretch lace to make your dresses. You can even hack the skirt to make it longer.
• It’s time for you to make your little black dress.

Winter Dahlia Dress Sewing Pattern

• Long sleeve all the way
• Boat neck option will protect you the best.
• Hack your scoop neckline to a “V” shape neckline.
• Use ticker knit fabrics to protect you better from cold weather.
• Leggings and Dahlia dress rock! Combine leggings and pantyhose.
• Stretch velvet is perfect for winter nights. Go for colors like rose, black, or blue navy.
• Use jersey knit fabrics for day winter dresses in bright colors.
• Have a fancy winter party? Hack your scoop neckline into a “V” neckline or the Boat neckline, use long sleeves and add length to the skirt to make it ankle length. Use fabrics with bright silky finishes.
