Funny, isn’t it? 

When I first heard this joke, I was like… What on earth are you even talking about… 

But as far as I think of it, it’s kind of true. 

I mean not in the literal sense. 

But as I walk on my path to be the “crazy plant lady” I realize that it is a little bit true that I care a lot about each one of my plants. 

Each one even has its own name. 

All of them!!

I also sing for them every morning when I water them, and I am always cleaning their leaves. 

Do you do this too? Or am I really going cray-cray?

Either way, another thing I do is make sure they have a pretty home (pots) to live in.

This plant pot decoration is a new brand hobby that I am really enjoying so far. 

It came up because of a couple of different reasons…

The first one being, of course, my recent gardening hobby, but lack of a garden. So, I can only have my plants in pots. 

And the second one is my usually empty wallet that just can’t afford to buy one hundred fancy Pots for each one of my plants. 

So, I had to get creative.

How do you decorate plastic pots? 

Today I want to show you a technique I used for a plastic pot that my mom gave me for my birthday. 

Well, technically the gift was the plant, not the pot. 

And you can clearly see that because of the before state of this poor thing.

It was originally full of dry mud and its color was all faded.

It also had a lot of scratches. Who knows why. 

This picture is after I washed and sand the pot.

So, just imagine how it looked before-before. Or better yet, don’t. 

But I had to do something! 

I really, really like the elegance of this tree plant, that I named Bella by the way. 

As I have absolutely no idea about plants yet, I was keeping this on my front porch. 

But according to several gardening groups, this plant belongs indoors. 

I am not very picky with my front porch pots. 

But obviously I wasn’t going to have such an ugly plant pot inside the house. 

Especially with such a pretty plant. 

And that made me want to fix its ugly pot to match their beauty and elegance by making a unique painted decoration. 

For that, I resorted to my silicone gun and my spray paint. 

Here is what happened.

Plant Pot Decoration. Spray paint and hot glue. 

• You will need:
• Sandpaper 3 sizes
• An old cloth
• Soap, water, and a reusable sponge
• A hot glue gun 
• Spray Paint of your preferred color.

Step by step instructions. (With extra tips)

If you have the chance to get a cordless hot glue gun, I seriously recommend it. As I worked outside, it would have been a lot easier for me to move around. Here is a terrific one recommended by crafters:

This whole process would have been easier if the plant hadn’t been inside the pot in the first place. 

But there was no point in taking it out so off I went. 

The first thing I did was to wash the pot with my reusable sponge and powder soap. 

I used the cloth to remove any dirt and then it was let to dry with the sun. 

Then I start sanding to remove all the misery scratches starting with the bigger sandpaper to the thinner. 

This was a very annoying task, and of course, you won’t need to do this is your plastic pot is brand new. 

After your pot is nice and smooth you can proceed to give it some texture. 

I decided to make simple dots and lines to decorate this particular plant pot.

The spray paint I used was gold so this design made me feel like the dots and lines were some sorts of embellishments. 

As hot glue dries pretty fast I was able to apply the spray paint immediately after. 

Remember that when you apply spray paint, it is always better to spray several thin layers instead of one with a lot of paint. 

If you do the latter, it will most likely get lumps and drips that are very hard to remove.

Then you will have to remove all the paint and start again… 

Anybody got time for that! 

Finally, as this plant was going indoors and was an outdoor pot, I recycled a plastic cake plate for it to be on the bottom to catch the excess of water. 

I painted it the same way as the pot and that was it. 

Now I got a beautiful high-end Gold Plant Pot in my living room to give me joy!
