What Materials do I need to make a DIY Hair Towel Wrap?
To make this hair wrap towel, you can reuse any old towels, t-shirts, or absorbent fabric.
I have done this project with some types of knit fabrics. I find out that they perform better with cotton knits.
Of course, the ideal thing is to use a towel fabric. I recommend choosing a medium or a lightweight towel for this project.
I tried to make it with a very fluffy one but it turned out to be too heavy for my head.
Machine-wise I used a serger machine and my home sewing machine to make my hair wrap towel. But if you don’t have a serger you can sew a bias tape on the inner seam instead.
This is a great solution, and I think you can give it a neat design touch with this idea.
How to Make a Hair Towel Wrap?
To make a hair towel wrap you first have to choose the material you want to make it from once you have that scroll down to the bottom of this post to get our Free PDF Sewing Pattern for the DIY Hair Towel Wrap.
Print and assemble your sewing pattern and cut your fabric according to the sewing symbols on that pattern.
Prep your sewing machines with matching thread and practice on a scrap of fabric to balance the thread tension for this particular material.
As towels are pretty thick you will probably need to increase the tension on your machines. Also, make sure to use a needle for heavyweight fabrics!
Once that is done, follow these steps to assemble your hair towel wrap.

1. Serge edges
Place both pattern pieces with the right sides of the fabric facing together.
Join by making an overlock stitch on the curve side. If you want to give it more strength you will need to make a straight stitch too.
2. Hem
Open the towel wrap and fold the edges 1/2″ twice.
Make a straight stitch to all the perimeter of the towel.
3. Sew a button
Take a big/medium button and mark in the half of the top hem.
Sew the button by hand to make it stronger, sew the thread at least four times through it.
5. Sew an elastic.
Cut a 3/8″ width elastic (about 2″ long) and fold it in half.
Sew it on the wrong side of the towel wrap.
And that’s it.

Not a facebook user. Have tried to get pattern numerous times. Never received email.
Hi Jannyxo! I just reseted that email so it would be delivered to you again. Could you help me checking out your email (spam and promo folders too)??
Wanted to copy this tutorial for future reference and since I’m not on Facebook couldn’t access the pattern. I can probably figure out the size of the wrap to make by making it double my head measurement. I was a bit confused about how to actually wrap it so went to the link on Pintrest but was unable to find your offering even after putting it in the search line. Anyway, I can probably make it without the pattern. Good use for old or excess towels. Thanks
Eliea, you put the side with the button on your head. You will have to be with your head and hair facing to the floor, then you will cover your hair with the long end and twist it, pull that tail to the back and insert the button into the loop.
If you don’t have a serger, can you give an alternative to sewing this?
Absolutely.
Instead of serging the center edges you could:
1. Sew them with bias tape
2. Sew it with a zig-zag stitch
