This post will show you how to make this beautiful Ghost Garland DIY with our 3 free embroidery machine patterns.
This garland is the perfect decorative element for your home’s mantel. It will create a super cute design for Halloween.
And if you don’t like garlands, you can always use these embroidery files to create hanging ghosts to put outside your door as a cute and spooky decoration.

Finally, the best season of them all is here. Fall!
There is no secret that Fall is my favorite time of the year. The weather is just at its perfect point for me to wear my favorite clothes and sewing patterns.

Of course, I get to change my home and put up all my Fall Decor Ideas, such as my fabric pumpkins and pumpkin wreaths.
Fall decorations stay up pretty much all fall. But just at the end of October, you gotta know it is time to take on all the spooky things for Halloween!

This year I will make my decorations Hocus Pocus Themed to honor the awesome new remake that will launch this month.
But I still wanted to make some traditional decorations, such as ghosts and spiders.
That is why I decided to create this cute little garland for my mantel.

How to make a Ghost Garland DIY?
To make this cute Garland, you first have to go to our pattern shop and download the Ghost Embroidery Bundle Patterns.
You can make these cute ghost softies in 3 different designs with these files.
These patterns are completely free to download, and you can get them at the end of this post, on the section that says “Ghost Free Embroidery Softie Pattern Download.”
Now let me tell you how I make these.
Materials:
- Embroidery Machine
- Felt
- Medium Weight Stabilizer
- 4” x 4” Embroidery Hoop
- Free Ghost Embroidery Bundle Patterns
- Sewing Scissors
- Pins
1. Download the Ghost Embroidery Design

To get your free download, go to the bottom of this post and click on the pattern button.
You will be taken to the product page (which is free).
Add it to your cart and follow the directions to get your free embroidery pattern. This file comes in formats: DST, HUS, JEF, PES, SHV, VIP, XXX.
2. Prep your Hoop
Prepare your embroidery hoop by placing a layer of felt over a layer of medium-weight stabilizer.
Feed the hoop to your sewing machine.
3. Embroider the First Color
The first color of the embroidery file will be the outline and the eyes of the pair of ghosts.
Once this pattern is made, remove the hoop and trim the thread tails.
4. Pin a backing fabric
Cut a felt square and place it on the back of the embroidery hoop.
Then use the thinner pins you can find and pin the fabric from the top of the hoop.
This will create the second layer for the ghost plushie.
5. Embroider the Second Color
Place the hoop back in the machine and start embroidering the second color (A.K.A. the second step) with the same thread color you used first.
6. Take out the design and cut the shape
Now that you have the two layers of the ghost plushie, it’s time to cut the shape of the ghost on edge, leaving about ⅛” of leftover fabric around the design.
7. Fill the Softie
Use craft filling to fill the softie toy with the help of a pointy tool.

8. Close the opening
Set your regular sewing machine with a narrow zig-zag stitch and sew close the opening of the softie.
9. Make the Garland
Now it’s time to make the garland.
To create mine, I made a long strip with beads, which I later sewed on the ghosts too. I used about 14 to 16 ghost softies to make my garland, with a separation of 3” between ghosts.
10. Decorate
You are done! Now it’s time to put your new Halloween Decoration on your mantel or whatever place in the home you like best.
