This week I got to the task of finding the best Netflix shows my seamstress friends love to watch while sewing.
The best recommendations ordered by easy categories! Add them to your bucket list, because these shows come very well recommended.

For me, sewing is my LIFE. But sometimes when you are on a sewing strike, the room can get too quiet.
Besides, having either your favorite show playing on the back is one of the perfect elements to have the perfect sewing day.

Travel back in time with shows that not only are super interesting but also have something that every one of us can appreciate: AMAZING COSTUME DESIGN.
29. Outlander
Seasons: 4 | Gender: Political, Romance
This is by far the absolute best show that I have ever seen. Outlander is not only a work of literary art, but it also has a very truthful elaborate and amazing costume design.
Costume designer Terry Dresbach went all the way on this series costumes. You will enjoy everything from the ’40s, trough the 18th century.
Join Claire Randall after she travels to Scotland for her honeymoon, after her service as a nurse in World War II, only to find her life was about to change forever.
After a visit to the stones of Craigh Na Dun, she suddenly finds herself in 1743 Scotland. Then she meets his savior, Jaime Fraiser a handsome high lander warrior whom she will need to marry in order to save both their lives.
28. Grand Hotel
Seasons: 3 | Genre: Drama, Suspense
Spain. 1905. A young boy lies its way to a waitress job at the Grand Hotel, the most famous venue in Cantaloa, to investigate the disappearance of his sister Christina.
He then meets Alicia Alarcón.
Which is not only the daughter of the hotel’s owner but is also promise to marry the hotel manager Diego Murgia the main suspect of all sort of dark things happening in the Grand Hotel.
With the help of their friends, Julio and Alicia began the journey of uncovering all of the dirty secrets around the most respected family in Cantaloa.
27. The Crown
Seasons: 2 | Genre: Drama
The chronicles about, probably, the most famous queen on history: Queen Elizabeth II.
Follow the story of Elizabeth from her marriage with Philip, Duke of Edinburgh (1947) to all the challenges royal life has.
Jane Patrie actually won an Emmy for the costumes of The Crown. You will find here amazing designs that portrait the royal fashion of the ’50s and early ’60s.
26. Velvet
Seasons: 4 | Genre: Romance
Started by Anna, a young seamstress who works for the most prestigious fashion house in Spain.
There is no way you won’t love this show.
Fall in love along Anna and her childhood love Alberto, who is no one else but the heir of Velvet House. He has returned to take care of the business after his father’s suicide.
You will not only enjoy the amazing adventures of Anna and her friends but also see the transition in fashion between the ’50s and the early ’60s.

Let’s travel a little more. Back to the ’20s.
The “it” place to work. The story turns around a new telecommunications company just opened in Madrid and 4 girls who start working there.
The life of working women in the ’20s wasn’t easy.
But the life of these 4 friends just gets far way complicated when they become partners in crime and have to lie their way into protecting themselves.
24. House of Z
Seasons: NA | Genre: Documentary
To be fair this is won’t count as a show, but it has no less merit for it.
This documentary relates the story of the career of Zac Posen, one of the most influencing designers of his time. The raise, the fall, and the comeback!
Amazing designs, exclusive interviews and a glimpse of the dark side of fashion are what is waiting for you in this great Netflix show.
23. Atelier
Seasons: 1 | Genre: Optimist
Mayuko begins to work under the wing of one of the most prestigious lingerie fashion designers Mayumi Nanjo.
Follow the adventures of Mayuko and her coworkers as she begins to learn about the high-end world of fashion and style.
As a warning, this might be a hard Netflix show to follow while you are sewing something that needs a lot of attention. But it is definitely a must for your bucket list.
22. Mad Men

Set in the 60’s Mad Men show us the story of Don Draper, a creative director, and partner of the Advertising Agency on Madison Avenue in Manhattan.
Don Draper is a handsome, powerful and charismatic man who has an undeniable talent and always seems to get away with everything.
This Emmy winner show follows the life of the day by day of businessmen in the ’60s fighting for power and success.

21. Brooklyn 99
Seasons: 6 | Genre: Comedy
Jake Peralta is a smart and young detective who will keep you on a stage of never-ending laughter.
He and his friends Charles, Amy, Rosa, and Sargent Terry Jeffords (Terry Crews) work on the commissary 99 of Brooklyn solving crimes, but now they have to deal with the new chief Raymond Holt.
Bae and I were so hooked on this show that we often forgot to have dinner just because we wanted to watch the next episode. The series is so well written you can but love every single one of these characters.
Plus you know anything with Terry Crews in it is going to make you smile.
20. Crazy Ex-girlfriend
Seasons: 4 | Genre: Comedy, Musicals
Crazy ex-girlfriend is the story of Rebecca a very smart lawyer who is about to get a big promotion in his work when she crosses paths by accident with Josh, her drama camp boyfriend.
This makes her turn down the job offer and move to West Covina, California, where just happens to be where Josh lives.
Then she meets Paula, who will help her to get back with Josh with the funniest of crazy plans.
The best thing about this show is the bizarre musical interventions that Rebecca plays in her head. I am telling you, you will be singing along in no time with her.
19. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Seasons: 4 | Genre: Sitcom
Kimmy has just been set free after 15 years of being a prisoner inside of a bunker by a religious cult fanatic who told her and the other girls that the world had ended.
She then moves to New York to make a new life for herself. Then she meets Titus a fun super broke guy who’s just trying to make it on Broadway and starts working for Jaqueline, who is just your typical white rich by marrying New Yorker.
18. Lucifer
Seasons: 4 | Genre: Comedy, Crimes
Lucifer Morningstar (aka. the devil) breaks out of hell and moves to Los Angeles to live life as a human. A rich full of excess and money human with powers.
Then she happens to meet detective Chloe Decker and for the first time ever he becomes vulnerable. I am not talking about emotions, like physically vulnerable. As in whenever he is around her he can get hurt as any other mortal.
At the sight of this, he decides to help Chloe in her cases as a consulting detective, were he founds himself falling in love and wanting to change his dark side for the better.
17. Jane the Virgin
Seasons: 4 | Genre: Soap Opera comedy
A virgin with a baby? Yes. This comedy show staged and narrated as a classic Mexican Soapopera will keep you on your toes.
Jane is a young waitress who faints on the bus to work only to wake up in a hospital whit the new that she is pregnant. The only problem: Jane is a virgin.
Tuns out that her sister’s boss (who is a gyno) happened to artificially get her pregnant by mistake when she confused her chart with other patients.
Plot twist: the sample of the baby belongs to no one else but his boss. What?
Romantic series to fall in love
Nothing like a chick flick to put you in the mood to sew. These are the top recommendations if you want a sweet story.
16. When calls the heart
Seasons: 5 | Genre: Period, Romantic Western
Elizabeth Thatcher is a privileged (but kind) educated women of the city who travels to the wild west in search of propose and adventure.
She becomes the teacher of the kids in a town that just happened to had a very tragic accident that killed half of the miners there.
While she is adapting to her new life she meets Jack, a handsome horseman who was sent there to protect her and the town.
Pure, innocent and refreshing is how I would describe this show. It’s just the kind of story you will want to read about with a cup of tea when is raining outside.
15. Good Morning Call
Seasons: 2 | Genre: Teen Romance
Nao is a sweet innocent girl in high school who just happens to get her first apartment.
The story has a twist when she discovers that she was involved in a scam lease along with the most popular boy in school.
As they can’t get their money back and is too late to find a new place they will have to share their place and try to hide it from their friends and family.
What seems to be a very apathetic relationship between those two, ends by changing their hate for each other as they began to spend more time together.
14. Heartland
Seasons: 12 | Genre: Drama, Love, Family
Heartland is the honest and some quite hard time of the poor people on the west.
Amy begins to overcome the death of her mother just about when she and her grandfather are about to lose their farm.
When Amy comes back home, she decides to continue her mother’s work of healing horses, including Spartan. However, she needs to learn to deal with her father re-entering her life, but also the return of her older sister Lou.
13. Love
Seasons: 3 | Genre: Comedy
Mickey is a Love and sex addict who has struggled with relationships her whole life.
But then she meets Gus. The sweetest nerd on the block.
In this comedy, Mickey and Gus will dive into the waters of the female and male perspectives of love and relationships along with their friends and family.
Easy to Follow
If you definitely need to put your whole attention into your sewing project then you might want to choose one of these easy-to-follow shows.
You don’t have to be glued to the screen, just hit play and start sewing.
12. The Ranch
Seasons: 7 | Genre: Comedy, Friends
The more I see this show, the happier I am. As simple as this.
This is a sweet story of a son who comes back to the family ranch and decides to stay and help his father and brother through a hard time.
He reunites with his high school sweetheart and they become friends. Need more? Ashton Kutcher is the lead.
Spoiler alert: Hope for a very nice reunion.
11. Working Moms
Seasons: 3 | Genre: Comedy
I am not even a mother and I can identify with these women a lot.
The reality of being a modern working mom in the modern era portrayed in the funniest way possible.
Every tabú topic is here. From nursing at work, marriage problems, and the hard reality of trying to balance work and motherhood as a superwoman.
10. Tying up with Mary Kondo
Seasons: 1 | Genre: Lifestyle
Don’t worry. Cleaning and seeing a show about cleaning are two different things.
Just like sewing and buying fabric.
Do you know how you love those perfect staged pictures of clean homes of Instagram? If you like those then you are going to love this show. Mary Kondo visits messy homes and helps their owners to clean them up in joyful ways.
Who knows, maybe you will want to pick up a thing or two after watching her do her magic.
9. The Good Place
Seasons: 4 | Genre: Comedy, Religion
What do you do if you lived a completely selfish and sinful life and suddenly one day you just woke up in heaven?
Fake til you make it!
Elinor spent all her life lying, cheating and scamming people. So when she wakes up in heaven after an accident she knows a mistake has been made.
With the help of her friends, she has to do everything in her power to learn to be good so she can stay in heaven.
8. Big Dreams, Small Spaces
Seasons: 3 | Genre: Lifestyle
Most seamstresses I know love gardening too. Myself included.
The greatest thing about this series is that is the perfect thing to have in the background making sweet sound.
Is very easy to follow show about people who transform small spaces of their properties on beautiful gardens.
7. Gilmore Girls
Seasons: 7 | Genre: Light Comedy
Lorelai Gilmore is a single mother who works as a manager in an Inn of a little town, where everyone is friends.
This show has everything from love stories, a little bit of drama and mainly the relationship between Lorelai and Rory with their town friends and the rich grandparents of Rory.
Despite is very easy to follow the show, you will find yourself following the development of these amazing characters.
Dark stories you can’t get away from.
I am not into Horror movies/shows. I simply can’t sleep after watching them.
But put me in front of a mystery novel and I am in! You know, the ones with murders, intrigues, police crimes mix with love, sex, and friendship.
6. You
Seasons: 1 | Genre: Thriller
This physiological thriller will keep you in suspense about this chaotic relationship.
What could have been a great love story turns around when Joe, a bookstore manager becomes starts developing a dark obsession with a girl he met at his store.
Guinevere is nowhere near to find out that his apparently perfect and simple boyfriend is responsible for the awful things that start happening around her.
5. Orphan Black
Seasons: 5 | Genre: Thriller, Mystery
A lonely orphan witness a suicide of women who looks exactly like her. Curious about this she decides to assume her identity.
Along with his foster brother Felix, she founds out that she is only one of many clones owned by a scientific movement called Neolution.
They meet her clones, Alison and Cosima, and together they begin to investigate where all the other sisters are and how this thing is even possible.
4. Black Mirror
Seasons: 5 | Genre: Drama
This is a bizarre thriller about the awful consequences technology brings into our lives.
None of the chapters are related to each other and they are not really placed on the actual era. Still, you can’t avoid but wonder if this what’s coming to us?
3. Dead to me
Seasons: 1 | Genre: Thriller
A mourning wife who has just lost his husband joins a support group where she meets and odd but also adorable girl and they start a very close friendship.
Jen is very affected because she is trying to find the person who ran over his husband, while Judy who also claims she lost her husband is just trying to help her get it over with.
Nothing about this story is what you would expect. And the best thing is that season 2 is about to air.
2. The Politician
Seasons: 1 | Genre: Drama
A Netflix original show that you just can’t miss.
Payton Hobart is going to be president of the United States of America. At least that’s what he keeps saying.
But first, to achieve his plan he has to complete the step one of his long term plans: become the student president of his high school.
With the help of his ambitious friends and a cancer patient, he will plan the craziest of the campaigns and stop at nothing to win the elections.
1. Scandal
Seasons: 7 | Genre: Political Drama.
I am on my second run of this show.
Olivia Pope is the one person you call if you are in trouble and need to fix your big problems.
All sorts of high profile people come to her for her help and advise and along with his team of gladiators in suits she solves the most scandalous problems of politicians, rich people and more.
Kind of a master in her business if you take into consideration she is sleeping with the most powerful men in the world: the president of the United States.
