What are the different apron styles?
These are the most popular apron styles. Each of these aprons serves a different purpose, and they are worn by individuals in various professions within the culinary industry.

- Bib Apron. This is the most popular style, and it’s been around for centuries. It covers the upper body fully and goes down to the knee or mid-thigh.
- Waist Apron. This apron typically covers the lower half of the body, extending to the mid-thigh or knee area.
- Bistro Apron. Just like the waist aprons, these only cover the lower half of the body, with the difference that the bistro apron covers the legs entirely.
- Pinafore Apron. A classic vintage apron. Kids mostly used these aprons in the past to protect their clothes, but today you can see them anywhere. It covers the front bodice to the mid-thigh and has crossed straps and a back.
- Tabard Apron. You can see the tabard apron mostly on the cleaning crew. It has an entire front and back bodice cover with open sides and a tab closure.
- Cobbler Aprons. This type of apron is similar to the Tabard apron style but with less shape. This apron consists of a large rectangle with a hole for the head to pass through. It covers the front and back and has adjustable ties on the sides.
What is the best Fabric to sew an Apron?
Aprons come in a lot of different colors and materials. You can choose anything from cotton, leather, denim, wax canvas, or even neoprene fabric!! It all depends on what purpose you will give to this apron.
For home use, the best choice is cotton fabric. The cotton fabric for aprons offers a lot of durability and is easy to clean. Which, obviously, is something that I appreciate a lot.

How much fabric do I need for an Apron?
To make a simple apron for an adult, you can use anything from ¾ to 1 yard of fabric. You can even make it with only half a yard if it is a half-apron. But when it comes to a more complex style like my ’50s-inspired yellow apron or a pinafore-style apron, you will need about 1 ½ yards of fabric.
To sew an apron for a kid, you will make it with only half a yard of fabric.
