Seriously. If you get me to choose between celebrating Christmas or my birthday, I will choose Christmas all the way.

Yes. For me, it is long gone the time when you could only think about Christmas in December.

One month is just not enough for me…

And I want to inaugurate this season with the first FREE Christmas Sewing Pattern of this year.

The Mama Claus Apron Sewing Pattern

Christmas Apron DIY

Hey! If you are making this as a gift put this on top: DIY Fabric Pull-up bows for ecofriendly gifts!

Two years ago I made available for you a set of 3 Christmas themed add-ons (apron and 2 oven mitts) for your kitchen apron kit.

But this year I wanted to shake things up a bit.

This Mama Claus Apron is not only beautiful and kinda sexy. It also has a touch of 50’s vintage aprons.

Oh… And because you explicitly told me so at My Golden Thimble Sewing Club, this apron also has…

Christmas Apron DIY | Free Sewing Pattern and Tutorial

To start this Sewing project you will need to first download and print and assemble your sewing pattern.

Christmas Apron DIY

To make this Sewing Project you will need:

Step 1- Add-on Skirt

Start by serging the top edge of the skirt add-on piece.

Next, you will apply the bias to all the edges of this piece.

On the corners, you can make mitered bias corners. You can also simply sew straight and then cut near the edge as I did here.

Step 2- Assemble the Skirt

Now we are going to sew the bias on the edges of the main skirt. Begin to sew from the waistline of one side and finish until you get to the other side.

I also sew this part with my special bias foot and leave the tails long. Then I fold them to the back pin them and sew them later.

Match the bottom add-on with the main skirt and sew them together. Stitch just above the bottom bias of the main skirt.

Step 3- Apron Bib

For the bib, begin applying the bias from one end to the other.

Step 4- The Straps

Then fold and close both of the straps by sewing one top and the side at ¼”.

Turn inside out and press. Then use the bib to cut a semi-round shape at the end of each strap. Serge open edges.

Pin the straps behind the bib making sure the serged end is below the bias.

Sew the straps by sewing just right under the white bias.

As you are going to be sewing it with red thread this stitch will be almost invisible.

Step 5- Attach bib with belt

Pin at the center the bib between the two layers of the belt.

Belt layers should be facing the right sides together.

Sew along the waistline at ½”

Step 6- Attach Belt with the Skirt

Take the waistline of the skirt and match it with the center of the front layer of the belt.

Make sure the right sides of both right sides are facing together.

Sew along the waistline of the skirt at ½”.

Press down both layers of the belt. Fold and press the ½” of sewing allowance of the bottom of the back layer of the belt.

Sew along to close the belt. Be sure to cover the seams of the front.

Step-7 Belt loop

To finish your Mama Claus Apron decorate with black buttons at the center of the bib.

The belt loop is made by cutting the belt loop pattern and then make ¼” cuts on the notches of the inner square.

Fold the sewing allowance to the wrong side of the fabric and press the seams. After this, fold the outer edges of the square ¼”. And then press them to the wrong side of the fabric too.

You should end with something like this.

Place the “belt loop” at the center of your apron’s belt and topstitch at ⅛ ” from the edges.

You are done!

The only thing left to do is sew the black buttons and you are ready to cook!

Now you have a super stylish Christmas Apron to wear through all the festive season.

All though I am wearing all year long for sure… I am that kind of girl, lol.

  1. The pattern for A4 paper does not workit is 1/4″ shy of the end of the lines due to my “brother printer ” not printing borderless. It will however poster print the A0 version but wastes a lot of paper.

PS. did you know that father christmas’s wife is called Mary as in mary christmas to you 🙂

    • Thank you so much for letting me know Trevor! We will check out that issue with the team. Is that the reason why we say Merry Christmas!?! That’s so cool!
