Using Fabric Pumpkins for Fall Decor
Can you picture how beautiful your living room would look with some lovely fabric pumpkins on your mantle or coffee table? It would definitely give your home that inviting autumnal vibe you’ve been wanting.
If you love creative projects that don’t require any sewing skills, you’re going to adore this farmhouse-inspired craft.
And don’t worry. There is no need for a sewing machine, thread, or needles – just your enthusiasm for crafting and a bit of free time.
This was such a nice Fall DIY Project for me.
So, I wasn’t about to throw a perfectly good Rib Stitch Sweater (this is a type of sweater) in the garbage!!
Now, it came to my attention that some of you thought that the larger pumpkins looked more like apples than pumpkins.
So, I went ahead and used the same final technique to wrap the thread around the larger ones to create the sections.
That’s why you will see both versions in this post.
That’s why I said to myself, “Myself, don’t you think this rib stitch would look amazing in your fall home decorations?”. And so, I took my fabric scissors and upcycled this abandoned sweater into this gorgeous fall decor for this October.
The best part of all? This project was done in under an hour!
Quick and easy, it is my favorite kind of craft.

3 Ways to Make No-Sew Fabric Pumpkins
I love giving you option ideas. So, I will show you three different ways to make these pretty no-sew fabric pumpkins, and you get to decide which one you want to make.
We are going to use pretty simple materials such as craft filling, branches from your garden, and something as simple as twine.
As for your tools, make sure to charge your glue gun because she will help us with one of these three options.
So, let’s get those creative juices flowing and bring that old sweater back to life in the form of charming pumpkins. Hit that play button, and let’s dive into this fun and exciting DIY adventure together.
OK, here are all the materials you need.
- Old Sweater or any knit fabric scraps you have.
- Craft Filling
- Hair Rubber Bands
- Branches from a tree
- Toilet paper roll
- Glue Gun
- Jute Twine
- Burlap (optional)
- Fabric Scissors
1. No Sew Fabric Pumpkin with Rubber Bands
You will need your fabric or sweater, the tiny rubber bands for hairdos, and a branch to make this easy pumpkin.
That’s it!
The first thing you want to do is to cut a big rectangle on your fabric. It doesn’t have to be a perfect rectangle; no worries.
Use your glue gun to join the shorter fabric edges for the rectangle on half lengthwise.
Now, take the bottom of the rectangle’s open edges and use your hands to gather the ends. Just as if you were trying to make a ponytail with your hair. But very near the end.
Use a rubber band to tightly tie this part and turn your piece inside out.
Use the craft filling to stuff your pumpkin, but don’t fill it all the way up. Fill it in about two-thirds of the total space.
Then, stick the piece of branch at the center and put a rubber band on the stem at the height you want the top of your pumpkin to be.
Take the fabric edges and push them down inside the circumference of the rubber band. Do this until all the edges are inside the band.
Fix the gathers and decor with a piece of twine and burlap.
2. No Sew Fabric Pumpkin with Toilet Paper Roll
For this pumpkin, you will need your sweater or fabric scraps, an empty toilet paper roll, and craft filling. That’s it!
It’s so easy that it is painful!
The first thing we are going to do is to cut a big circle of your fabric. To do this, you can fold your canvas in four parts and trace a semicircle from the folded fabric edges. Cut the shape, and you will have a perfect circle.
Cut your toilet paper roll in half (depending on how tall you want your pumpkin) and place it in the center of the fabric circle.
Place craft filling around the toilet paper roll. This will give the volume to the pumpkin.
Now, stuff the fabric edges of the circle inside the tube. Stick the branch in the middle once you have all the edges in.
And now, you have another great and easy pumpkin! You can use burlap or twine to decorate your pumpkin by making leaves and a little knot around the branch.
3. No Sew Fabric Pumpkin with Twine
This easy pumpkin will need a sweater or fabric scraps, craft filling, twine, a rubber band, and your glue gun.
We are going to start with a rectangle. Fold it in half and join the shorter edges of the fabrics with the glue gun.
Be careful not to burn!
Then, gather and tie one of the open edges with your rubber band and turn the piece inside out.
Add as many craft filling as you want to make your pumpkin nice and round.
Leave about half of the space unfilled. Then, use a very large piece of twine to make a knot in the middle of the fabric to “close” the pumpkin.
That extra fabric is now going to be our stem. Start “wrapping the ball with the twine to form the pumpkin sections and alternate between wrapping the “stem” and wrapping the ball.
Once all the ball sections are formed, move on to wrapping the stem with the leftover twine, and when you are done, secure it in place with your glue gun.
Now you have 3 gorgeous pumpkins!! And you made them without a single stitch!
