The Olive Hooded Robe Pattern.

The Cold season is here, and there is no better way to celebrate it than to make yourself a cozy Robe with long sleeves and a comfy hoodie.

Snug into your Robe and be ready for this cold weather.

The Olive Hooded Robe Pattern is a PDF sewing pattern of a Robe for Women. This pattern comes in 3 different sizes Small, Medium, and Large.

This beautiful pattern features a straight line that sits perfectly on the body and fitted sleeves, avoiding most robes’ baggy sensation. Nevertheless, you will have enough room and comfort to move and layer up.

This free pattern will keep you warm and cozy during the winter. Making a gift bathrobe pattern for your family or friends can be a great idea to use this free sewing pattern. Use the same pattern to make a bathrobe with towel fabrics and embroider a monogram to it!

The pattern features an oversized hood, two square pockets, and a tie band to put around the waist.

I made my design with a nice winter-themed fleece, and since I made it, I haven’t been able to wear anything else around my house!

One of the things I liked more about this pattern is that, unlike Kimono Robe Sewing Patterns, this one has a fitted shoulder. Not a dropout.

This makes for a nicer general fit around your body because it is not bulky. It has just the right amount of ease so you can slip in it comfortably.

Pockets Feature.

Oh!

And another nice thing: It has POCKETS!!!

Everybody loves pockets. And your Olive Cozy Robe sure has them.

It fits your phone perfectly!

How much fabric do I need for a Hooded Robe?

To make a Hooded Robe sewing pattern, you will need at least 2 1/2 yards of fabric. Assuming the fabric has a 58″ width.

We recommend using cozy fabrics to keep you warm and comfortable. Some of the options for materials can include cotton (for summer), flannel, fleece, and seersucker.

This pattern can also be used as a bathrobe, in which case you will want to use towel fabrics like french terry of your favorite colors.

How to make a Hooded Robe. Sewing Instructions.

1. Serge the Seams.

This step is optional and will depend on the fabric you use.

There are many ways to finish the raw edges of the fabrics without using a serger. You can use one of those.

Or, like me, in this case, when I used fleece fabric, I left the seams unserged.

If you have a fabric that frays, you need to serge the shoulders and the sides of the bodices (front and back), the sleeves’ sides, and the hood’s back seam. Also, serge the hem of the sleeves.

2. Sew the Shoulders and Sides.

Place the front bodice sewing pattern over the back bodice pattern.

Make sure the right sides of the fabrics are facing together.

Then sew the shoulders and the sides at ½”. Press the seams to open.

3. Close the Sleeves.

Hooded robe sewing pattern sleeves

Fold the sleeves in half with the right side of the fabrics facing together. Pin the sides.

Sew at ½” and press the seams open.

4. Make the Sleeves Hem.

Fold the sleeve’s hem towards the wrong side of the fabric 1”.

Press and sew the hem of both sleeves.

5. Sew the Hood.

Hooded robe sewing pattern

Place both pieces of the hood sewing pattern piece with the right sides of the fabrics facing together. Pin them and sew the part of the head from the center front to the first notch.

Press the seams open.

6. Attach the Hood to the Robe.

Take the bottom ends of the hood and match it with the center fronts of the neckline.

Match the center part of the hood with the center of the bodice.

Pin the rest of the hoodie to the neckline and sew at ½.”

Cut half the seam of both layers.

Sew a bias strip of 1 ¼” width made with the same fabric of the hooded robe sewing pattern.

Stitch the tape to the side of the hoodie and then press the bias tape down to the bodice.

Fold the open edge of the bias tape and sew it down to the bodice at ⅛”.

7. Hem the Bodice.

Fold the bodice’s hem ½” towards the wrong side of the fabric. Press the hem.

Repeat the step to have the hem folded twice. Press again and sew the hem at ½”.

8. Join the band.

robe band sewing pattern

Place both band pieces with the right sides of the fabrics facing together.

Sew at the center at ½”. Press the seams open.

Pin one end of the band to the center front of the hooded robe pattern hem. The bottom edge of the band has to be ½” off the edge of the hem.

Then take the opposite side of the band and cover up the bodice’s hem like a sandwich. Align both ends of the band, so they match in halves lengthwise, with the right part of the fabric facing together.

Sew the bottom of the band close (without grabbing the hem of the bodice’s robe) and then sew the through the center front up about 5” or 6”.

Cut the corner of the band. Turn it inside out.

9. Fold the edges and press.

Fold the other end of the band ½” towards the wrong side of the fabric. Press.

Then fold the band in half to cover the center seams of the robe.

Use an invisible stitch to sew the band close.

10. Sew the Pockets.

pockets sewing pattern

Fold the top part of the pocket ½” twice and make a hem.

Then fold the sides and the bottom of the pocket towards the wrong side of the fabric and press.

Locate the pocket 2” away from the band seam and 6” up from the bottom hem of the bodice—pin in place.

Sew the pocket in its place by making a top stitch over the sides and bottom of it. Backstitch the seam’s beginning and end to secure the pocket better.

11. Sew the Belt.

hooded robe pattern free

For the belt of our hooded robe sewing pattern, you need to cut a strip that measures 4” wide by one time the length of your waist + 16” on each side (waist girth + 32”).

Fold the strip in half with the right sides of the fabrics facing together.

Sew it close with a seam allowance of ¼” and leave a space open in the middle of about 2” to 3”.

Cut corners and turn inside out. Finally, close the belt’s open space with an invisible stitch.

It is easy if you were wondering how to make a bathrobe with this pattern. Just make it with a towel-like fabric and there. There you have it.  You might also want to remove the hoodie for this purpose.

  3. Hi Hi!

I just came across this robe and I think it’s exactly what I was looking for as something to make for my sister for Christmas! Is there a way to increase the size to a 2X-3X? I’m not sure how to go about doing it, but I figured I’d ask since I haven’t found anything close to this robe and I’m in love with the look!

  8. I am having two questions since I tried sewing the pattern.
    1. You don’t say when to attach the sleeves – I guessed based on the photos because in one photo they aren’t attached and in the next they are.
    2. I do not at all understand how to attach the Band (Step 8) – The photos are not helpful and I cannot understand where to attach it. Am I only going on one side of the robe, or both sides? How is it attached?

    Thank you.

    Reply
    • You are rigth, Jamie. Thank you.
Yes, you would attach the sleeves after step 3.
And on step 8 you have to join the two band pieces to form the long band. Then you join that to all the edges of the robe. Start from the center of the band and the center of the hood and go down all the way to the hems.

      Reply
      • Thank you – Oh I see – the band wraps all the way from the hood down to the bottom hem – but how does it go on both sides of the front if it’s connected? Does it go up and around the hood? It’s not long enough for that, I don’t think.

        • I am so sorry Jamie, I am afraid that I didn’t understand your question. Do you mind posting a picture of your question on My Golden Thimble Sewing Club on Facebook so I can help you with more detail?

  14. Hello!

Thank you for the pattern. I am having trouble getting it to scale properly on my printer. It is set to actual size but the test square is still 2.5″, not 2″. Any idea why this may be the case? I’ve printed other patterns before and I have never had this issue.

    Thanks!
