Gubbins means literally “scraps”. That is why I think it would make the perfect name for our baby pattern here.

This is important to consider when you are making No-Show socks because you have to think that they are like “little socks” under a shoe that is not meant to be used with socks.

I made mine a bit bigger than the pattern because I was using Tshirt material, due to my allergy to spandex and latex elastic. So if you are like me, copy the pattern to 120% to get the proper fit to accomodate the lesser stretch of cotton material. Once printed larger, I took the original size and traced the fish tail part on to the 120% size to cut off the extra. The back part will be too big if you leave it, unless you are larger than a size 8. I also rolled the sides to make a casing for clear elastic. They do not slip and my feet are dry. This is the perfect pattern.

I made five pairs for a trip where I wanted to wear sneakers with a dress. I have small feet so took 5mm off the back seam and they now fit perfectly. I am still working on making the elastic really neat, but it doesn’t show, so not really a problem. The socks are really comfortable – I don’t notice them at all. I think they work slightly better when made in fabrics with four-way stretch, but I do have some with two-way and they are fine too. I can thoroughly recommend this pattern, and best of all, it’s free!

This pattern is just what I needed, it is perfectly drafted and fits my size perfectly! I made 10 pairs and I can’t stop, it is a scrap buster, and that is always great!! I only made one change, I used FOE instead of elastic and my socks look amazing! Also perfect for gifts!

Tested the pattern and they fit grand daughter but not my big feet but that is normal for me. i did another pair by tracing around my foot then removing a half inch and they fit much better. I didn’t have 1/8 inch elastic and used 1/4 inch for test pattern and they fit fine as long as the elastic doesn’t roll on me. Will definitely buy correct elastic to make more. My fault for going rogue there.

I am glad that it worked for your granddaughter and that you found out how to make it your size. I think you could have maybe graded this pattern by cutting it… But your way was easier for sure!
