The only two absolute necessary materials you need to make a pom are yarn and a pair of craft scissors. 

But to make them faster and easier you can also use additional tools. Such as the following. 

• Yarn of your favorite colors
• Craft knife

How to use a Pom Pom Maker Tool.

A pom poms maker is a plastic set of different sizes of donut-shaped tools that will help you to make even-sized and quick pom poms.

Follow these instructions to use it.

1. Choose the size of the pom-poms you want to make. The set usually comes in 4 sizes.
2. Align both pieces of the tool opened one over the other. They will look like to letter “C’s”.
3. Insert your yarn string on one of the holes at the end of any of the pieces.
4. Start wrapping the string on both of the “C’s” until it looks full enough. 
5. Close the tool and secure the ends.
6. Using a craft knife cut right through the middle slot of both tool pieces.
7. Take an 8” string of yarn and wrap it through the slot to make a knot in the middle. 
8. Remove the pom-poms maker tool.

How to Make Yarn Pom Poms with Cardboard?

The Carboard Pompom maker Technique works very similarly to the maker tool. 

You need to make 2 donut-shaped layers of cardboard and make a slot opening in the same spot.

Choose as many sizes as you want, it’s pretty easy.

1. Cut 2 layers of a donut shape into your cardboard to make the template.
2. Make an opening of about ¼” at the same place on both layers of templates.
3. Align both templates and start wrapping your yarn around them. For the best result, try to wrap it in an even shape one string right next to the other.
4. Use a craft knife to slide it between the 2 cardboard templates and cut the strings of yarn.
5. Cut an 8” string of yarn and slide it between the cupboards to make a strong knot to hold the pompom in the middle.
6. Remove the cupboards and brush your pompom. Use your scissors to cut any uneven strings.

How to make a mini pompom with a Fork?

If you are not feeling getting or making any tools to make pompoms then this is the right tutorial for you.

By using a fork we can create beautiful mini pom-poms in no time at all.

So go to your kitchen and get out that fork. You are about to make the cutest little pompom ever.

1. Cut a string of about 5” long. Pass it through the middle slot of the tines of the fork. Hold it with your fingers.
2. Start wrapping the string around the tines as many times as you want.
3. Once you are happy with the fullness of the pompom, grab the 5” string and use it to pull and hold the pompom as you take it out of the fork.
4. Make a strong knot in the middle.
5. Use your scissors to cut through the loops to form the pompom.

How to Make Pom Poms with your Fingers?

What can be better than making any size of pompoms with no tools whatsoever?

With this technique, you only need your hands, yarn, and a pair of scissors! 

Just remember that to determine the size of your pompom the more fingers you use the bigger it will be.

Also, to make all pompoms look the same, count the number of times you are wrapping the string around.

1. Cut a 5” or an 8” string of yarn depending on the size of the pompom you are going to make. Hold the string between your fingers.
2. Wrap the yarn around the top of your fingers as many times as you want.
3. Use the string to pull and hold the pompom as you slide it out your fingers. Make a strong knot in the middle.
4. Using a pair of scissors cut through the loops.
