Thanks to the batting lining, this fabric flower cozy bowl is perfect for holding hot or cold things and protecting your hands from these intense temperatures.

For example, you can hold and heat bowl dishes in the microwave.

Though in my opinion, I think it can be better used as a dish to hold small items such as pins, candies, and even jewelry!

My sister uses hers to fill with candy, snacks, and cereal for her kids.

This super helpful project will look amazing around your home, office, or your sewing room organization.

About our Pattern.

Don’t forget to make extra ones to give to your loved ones this spring. I am sure they are going to love them (and you).

Click here to get and download these six sizes of sewing patterns. You will get an instant download with all the files in your email.

An idea that I like is to make a leaf base for your flower bowl. This pattern is included in the files, and you can use it under your petal flower bowl or as a separate piece.

Just download the pattern, and you will find this variation with your flower fabric cozy bowl pattern.

The only difference is that this bowl will be a little bigger, holding the flower bowl inside.

Of course, this is entirely optional. If you wish only to have the flower bowls, you can do that too, as they look pretty cool on their own.

I absolutely adore this cute project. And what I love the most is that I can use my favorite fabrics and recycle the scraps.

I’m already thinking about what I can use it for.

I can store my keys, keep the eggs for the upcoming Easter holiday, hold my ice cream dishes, warm up leftovers, and put my jewelry in.

Endless possibilities!

How much fabric do you need for a bowl cozy?

For our flower fabric cozy bowl, we need approximately:

  • Small size: Cut 2 pieces of 8”x8” squares of cotton fabric and 1 piece of 7”x7” squares of cotton batting.
  • Medium size: Cut 2 pieces of  10”x10” squares of cotton fabric and 1 piece of 9”x9” squares of cotton batting.
  • Large size: Cut 2 pieces of 16”x16” squares of cotton fabric and 1 piece of 15”x15” squares of cotton batting.

We will use a sewing machine, water, pen or chalk marker, scissors, needles, cotton thread, and pins.

Now, if you want to use these cute fabric bowls for decorative purposes only, you don’t need to go too strict with the 100% cotton fabric rule.

That way, you can use that pretty polyester print you have been saving.

What kind of batting do you use for a bowl cozy?

The best thing for the cozy bowl is to use 100% cotton fabric.

Why cotton?

The cotton fabric will resist the best if you use these bowls in the kitchen near fire or really high temperatures. This fabric has natural properties that make it perfect for kitchen fabric projects.

In addition, we need a piece of Wrap and Zap Natural Cotton Batting to lower the temperature of our bowl when it touches our hands.

How to Sew a Flower Fabric Cozy Bowl

The first thing you want to do is quilt your main fabric. Use a layer of your favorite print and the layer of batting and sew your favorite quilt design on it.

You can go as simple as sewing an x on the center or make a more complex design such as the ones I did here.

If you are not very familiar with quilting you can also make parallel lines.
Just use whatever design you like the best in this step.

1. Cut your fabrics.

After you quilted your main fabric and your batting together it’s time to cut out the pattern.

Place the complete flower pattern above your fabric and cut the flower.

Press if necessary.

2. Sew the darts.

Use a marking pen to draw the darts on the inside of the pattern.

Fold and pin each one of them.

Close the darts by making a straight stitch and a backstitch at the end.

To make these darts less bulky you can trim the seam allowance.

Press.

3. Cut and sew the lining

Now use the half pattern to cut 2 pieces of mirrored fabric.

Place both sides of the fabrics facing together and sew in the middle. Leave a space in the center open.

Press the seams open.

Then sew the darts of this flower the same way you did with the first layer.

4. Sew the main fabric and the lining.

Place both of the layers of the flower with the right sides facing together.

Pin along the entire edge matching curves and points. Sew at 1/4″.

Make cuts and notches along the curves and corners of the seam allowance.

5. Turn inside out and Topstitch

Once you trim the seam allowances, turn the pieces inside out through the space you left open.

Press the edges of the flower.

Sew a topstitch around all the edges of the petals.

6. Close.

      • Hi Dafhtne,
There is still a cost to this fabric bowl pattern when your blog states that it’s free. When will you be making a free version of this pattern?
        Looking forward to making it.
        Thank you.

  1. Thank you for another great pattern!
I have one question though. When I bought the pattern it said that it included step by step instruction but I didn’t recieve it. I just got double up of the pattern files. This is not a big problem. I know I can use the blog tutorial, but I I like to print out the instructions and keep with the pattern for later and that it easier when it’s instruction with a pattern and not a complete blog entry. So I’m just wondering if there is any instructions that I didn’t recieve or if the blog entry is the instruction included.

    • Hi Silje, thank you so much for getting our patterns :D.
I actually don’t have a file for this particular pattern as it is on the blog, but I will include the downloadable file too for this pattern as I am seeing people are loving it ;)! Thank you so much.

  2. Yesterday!! I was looking for an easy bowl holder, and today here it is. Wow, I love all the different sizes and what a great price. Thanks so much. I have plenty of fabrics and can start making them soon. Have you tried making with foam? I do not use my old bowl holders in microwave so I could use the foam. What do you think?

    Reply
    • Just in time! I am so glad. Yeees you can totally use craft foam for these, as long as you don’t use them near hot stuff (except yourself).

Your flower fabric bowls will have a lot more structure.
