DIY Lavender Sachets – Free Adorable Template

In this tutorial, I will show you how to make the most adorable DIY Lavender Sachets to freshen up your home, clothes, and bags, or even keep them on your pillow covers for aromatherapy at night.

I will also give you a free printable pattern that you can print on your fabric at home to give your sachets a unique, customized style. This free printable includes images of a lavender sachet steam that looks super cute!

And don’t worry because I will also take you step-by-step on how to print or transfer the images to your sachets.

Benefits of Lavender Sachets.

Did you know that lavender can help you relax and reduce stress? It’s true! Lavender is a wonderful plant that is commonly used in aromatherapy to create a calming atmosphere. 

But that’s not the only thing. Lavender is also great for keeping spaces smelling amazing.

You can place lavender sachets around your home to always have their lovely scent to help you unwind after a long day. Plus, the sweet scent of lavender can help boost your mood and uplift your spirits.

But the most common use for lavender sachets is to place them in closed spaces to keep them smelling fresh and fantastic!

I have a bunch of lavender plants, so I am constantly drying the steam to make these sachets. I place them strategically all around my home, especially on drawers and hangers, to keep my clothes smelling amazing every time.

The best thing is that the scent of dried lavender lasts so long! As soon as you start to see that it is “fading,” you can crush the sachet, and the smell will spread again. 

So, the real question is, why not try adding lavender sachets to your home to create a more positive and cheerful environment?

DIY Lavender Sachets Step-By-Step

Let’s go into this easy DIY lavender sachets tutorial. 

I would love to start by saying that this project was originally inspired as one of my Mother’s Day Sewing Gift Ideas. That is why you have the option of printing sachets with the word “Mom” on one or more of them. 

On the other hand, if you choose to make them for another occasion, you also have the pattern that only has the lavender drawings on it. 

Materials Needed:

• Dried lavender buds
• Rice
• Lavender Essential Oils
• Cotton Fabric (I recommend quilting cotton or muslin)
• Sewing Machine
• Matching Thread
• Thang point turner tool (optional)
• Free Printable Template by My Golden Thimble
• Inkjet Printer or Iron OnTransfer Paper
• Scotch Repositionable Spray Mount Glue (if printing at home)

1. Print the sachets template

The first step is to use our free template (sign up on the form at the end of this post to get it for free). Then, you want to use your preferred method to print/transfer the templates onto your fabric.

We used our home printer to print directly on the muslin fabric. For that, you need an inkjet printer. If you don’t have one or you are hesitant to try this technique, you can always print this free pattern with transfer paper sheets, which is very affordable, too!

Once you have that done, let’s do the next steps.

2. Cut out the backing

Cut out the shapes of the sachets squares and cut an extra layer of plain fabric for each one of them. 

Use the same printed squares to cut out the exact shapes on plain fabric.

3. Sew the pieces together

Place two of the squares with the right sides of the fabrics facing together, and sew around the square with ¼” seam allowance.

Leave a small space open in the middle of one of the sides. 

Then, cut the corners of each square, being careful not to cut too close to the seam.

4. Turn the pieces inside out.

Use your point-turner to help you turn each one of the squares inside out.

5. Fill the sachets with lavender and rice

Make a mixture of equal parts rice and dried lavender, and add some drops of lavender essential oils to really accentuate the smell.

I know most of the tutorials tell you to use only the buds of the lavender. But as I mentioned before, I own several pots of lavender, so I like to use all the plants for the sachets. Even the dried leaves.

Even though the essential oils are an optional step, I have found that they make the difference in how strong the smell is in closed spaces like my drawers. And I just love having my clothes smell like that all day.

6. Close the open space

Use an invisible stitch, a hand needle, and thread to close the open space of the sachet.

And there you have it – your very own homemade lavender sachets, ready to infuse your spaces with a calming and delightful fragrance.
