Juki MO654DE Review, Unboxing, and my Honest Experience.

Today I will share with you every aspect of my purchase of this amazing machine. I’ll be as honest as I can about my experience. And also, mention you the most important aspects to consider if you are thinking about getting this serger machine.

First of all, let me tell you that I’ve been using the Juki MO654DE since December of 2019. I waited this long to write a review because I wanted to go deep into using all of the features of this machine, see its endurance and wait for the “oopsie”. 

You see, I am a list person, an organized and love-doing-research person. I won’t buy anything major before making a pro and con list. Geez! I won’t even get my mop without comparing brands first.

I am also a person of habits and routines. This means that when I like something I stick to that something for as long as I can.

Hubby would tell you stories as to how he gets surprised if I dare to ask anything new in my favorite restaurants.

That being said, since I’ve started sewing I tried a great number of machine’s brands, from your classical vintage Signer to industrial machines, and of course a great number of home sewing machines too. 

After a while, I married the brand Brother. And since then every machine I would own had to be Brother. 

So you can imagine my internal debate and struggle when after 7 years with my Brother 1034D Serger, I decided to change my brand to a Juki.

It took a lot of research, days of reading reviews, and asking in several serger groups what finally let me take the jump.

JUKI MO654DE VS Brother 1034D

As most of us know, Brother is one of the top brands of sewing machines along with Singer. But as far as Sergers goes, Juki has taken the lead on what we seamstresses really are looking for. 

From size to endurance the Juki MO654DE serger is far better than the Brother 1034D. That without taking into account the fantastic functionalities that shine over Brother (sorry guys! True is true).

One thing that Brother has over Juki on these particular models though, is that Juki has the presser foot lifter on the back left of the machine. When as for brother you had that lifter on the right side of the machine. This lets you move your fabric easily with your free hand.

Also, it does not have a thread catcher. But I am planning on sewing one for it soon. No problem.

The other thing that I didn’t love was that the thread knife that is included at the back of the foot isn’t as sharp as I would like.

But with all honesty, it was a feature that I was happy to lose to gain the more important ones such as functionality.

The machine comes pre-threaded to make it easier for you to thread it for the first time. But even if it didn’t come like this there is a color guide for each thread for you to follow.

I got my Juki MO654DE machine from Amazon. And I am telling you right now.

If you are getting this machine, get it from Amazon. And no, I am not telling you that because I am an affiliate.

It’s because when I first got this machine, I got a lemon. 

Now don’t get scared yet.

Every review I read about this machine talked about its fantastic functionalities and how it was silent as a kitty purring. 

But when I got mine and first used it the tension was impossible to set and it sounded like something was broken inside. 

Dang!! What was this? Wasn’t this supposed to be the machine of my dreams? 

Yes, yes it was. But not that lemon. 

I immediately contacted the Juki Customer Service and they were super nice to me. Very quick to respond and watch all the videos I sent them to figure out what was wrong. 

When they knew that there was something wrong with the machine I got a free mailing sheet to send them the machine for repair. All within the guarantee of course. 

But here is the thing, my dear, dear friend. 

They were going to take that machine that was… “bad”? And they were going to move things and send that back to me.

So, as you see I am not complaining about the Juki customer service. They were actually very impressive in their fast response and helpfulness. 

But I simply thinked smarter. 

Why would I send and fix a NEW broken machine and wait for 20 plus workdays to have that one back??

Why? Indeed.

If you are a shopaholic like me, you know that Amazon’s customer service is by far the best in the world.

For most of their products they give a return guarantee for a number of days, no questions asked. 

Well of course, within reason you should only return products that came damaged to you. 

So if I went and used that guarantee instead I would get a replacement of a NEW Serger Machine, by sending back the one that came bad.

So I did.

Instead of waiting 20 days to see if my machine could be fixed, I simply returned it to Amazon and got a new brand one within a week. 

Awesome isn’t it?

The best thing was when the new baby came. Worked like a charm.

I could have asked for my money back. 

But I am eternally grateful that I give JUKI MO654DE a second chance to prove itself. And it did.

Juki MO654DE Review. First impressions and overall functionality. 

The Juki MO654DE is one of the best-rated home sergers in the market. Not only because of its amazing power of 1500 spm and its capability of sewing through thick layers of fabric. But also for its endurance over the years, and the fact that you can use it all day without a problem. This machine is also super light and makes almost no sound compared with its competitors. It’s easy to move and thread, and it has a lot of functional different stitch modes.

The thing that impressed me most about this serger model was how light and small it was. It took almost no space in my sewing table and it’s very easy to carry around.

Also, those first stitches after threading my machine went perfectly balanced. I have never achieved such a stitch with that ease.

Cleaning and oiling is such an easy task too, thanks to the two doors. I clean it after every project, just for the joy of it.

Here is a summary of the best functionalities of this serger machine.

• 2/3 Thread converter: This function allows you to use one needle for decorative stitches or a 2 needle type machine that will make 3 threads for when you need super-stretch seams.
• 2 thread Flatlock: a flatlock seam creates flat seams on both sides of the fabric for decorative purposes. ()
• Rolled Hem: A seam often used to finish sheer fabric’s hems or for decorative purposes. 
• Sewing in Tape: The serger foot has a slit that facilitates adding and guiding tape to reinforce your seams.
• Differential feed: The most important feature on a serger. It allows you to control the speed of the dog feed to avoid puckering or stretching fabrics.
• Gathering: Make easy gathers with your serger with this function
• Lower knife adjusting knob.
• Stitch length adjusting knob.
• Easy raise and lowering of the upper knife.

Final thoughts.

After almost 2 years since my purchase, I couldn’t be happier with my Juki MO654DE. 

It is honestly the best serger I’ve ever used and the best I have owned. I am never going back to brother sergers now. 

Not that I need to, because as far as everyone keeps telling me this horse work serger machine will last for many years (with the proper care and maintenance) before I ever need to get it serviced. 

It’s simply and definitely a must-have in your sewing journey.
