However, you can choose between the classic look or the one with the top panel in the front and back and combine the finishing options.

Every seamstress knows a good dress has good pockets, however, just one style is not enough. That’s why we include 2 perfect fit pockets in this pattern. An inseam pocket and on the other hand a diagonal pocket. You can make a wonderful contrast with the latest as one, for example, the dress one of our thimbles made (check pictures below).

The end result is an okay dress (if you can figure it out for yourself) but the pattern pieces are all incorrectly labelled the ‘back bodice’ for some reason? The instructions are not clear in some parts at all and sometimes the wording contradicts the instruction photos. For example, the photo shows to position the pocket at the top of the skirt and the wording just says “match the pockets with the skirt” but then later on you realise they can’t go at the top because of how the bodice and skirt are joined with the elasticated waist so surely they should be inserted 5/8” down. Some parts make absolutely no sense and I had to make it up or tweak it so it worked (eg. the facings didn’t match the collar on some graded sizes). The list goes on. I sniff fake reviews also, due to recurring names and dates across multiple products 🙄 All three reviews on this product say instructions are easy to follow! 🥴

Hello Soph!
First of all, thank you so much for letting us know your feelings about this pattern. We love our Magnolia Dress Pattern and genuinely believe that it is an amazing and easy dress to sew, so I am going to do my best to help you address the issues you found with it.
First of all, I checked out the labels on the pattern pieces you were mentioning, and we found that the labels were mislabeled as “Back Bodice” on the A4 PDF copy only. That must have been the one you printed out. I have personally rectified this issue and uploaded the correct labeled file on this product. You can access the updated correction now from your account profile under “downloads.”
On the issue with the pockets, they, in fact, go all the way up, matching the skirt’s waistline!! The top pocket seams will also be hidden under the elastic waistband. If you were to insert them 5/8″ lower, the top seam of the pocket would dance inside the dress instead of being sewn into the whole construction.
About the facings, did you double-check that you cut the correct facing size of the pattern?
Just as a note, remember that I can help you with any doubts you have while sewing your pattern if you post your questions about it on our FB group, My Golden Thimble Sewing Club. Many experienced seamstresses and I are waiting there, ready to help you as you go!
Finally, all of our reviews are legit! Meredith and Kim were two of the first gals who sewed this dress, and you can see their beautiful versions of our pattern in the gallery of this product description. 😉 We value feedback greatly, so your review is as valid as anyone else’s. That is why I corrected the issue with the labeling ASAP! Please let me know if you have any issues downloading the update file.
I hope this fix helps, and I appreciate that even with this little thing there, you could enjoy our Magnolia Dress. I bet you made a fantastic version of our pattern. Thank you for helping us improve it!
